Default Milky Way at the beach

Had a great view this week. Was not planning on or prepared for astrophotography but the clouds cleared and the opportunity presented itself. This is a single 30sec exposure

Pretty darn nice Matt. I would love to be able to do this. Dark sky's in Florida are tough.

Thanks Pat and Ricardo! This was taken on the North Carolina coast about 30-40 miles from Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle beach as well as all the house lights and pier lights on as you can see by the illuminated beach foreground. Not so much dark skies! It was just an exceptionally clear night thankfully!

Thanks! It's one of the most breathtaking things to photograph, especially once you have to photos and start editing them. It's amazing how much is out there.

Matt, you should go to one of the places where the night skies are dark. Just imagine the pictures you could take. There used to be some pitch black places in Mexico between Mexico City and Cuernavaca.

    Thanks!

Liz, you have no idea how much I've always wanted to do that. I'm trying to plan it out to make it happen. Like middle of the remote west type of thing. It's just so humid here in the summer time to get any real clear skies. The Summer Milky Way is SO much brighter and more striking than the Winter Milky Way so you need to really have conditions right to get it. Low humidity, clear skies, and as dark of a sky as you can. Secretly and selfishly I was hoping NADA would head out to California this coming year to afford me an EPIC US road trip with stops such as a dark skies area and multiple national parks. Maybe next time!
