    DISEASE QUESTIONNAIRE

    Hello,

    I am trying not to over react and treat with meds unless it's necessary. The affected fish schools with the others and does eat a little, but not like it previously. He has a swollen abdomen and breathes rapidly. He hides after nibbling on food, most of which is spitten out. It does eat some though. Thanks for your help!

    Problem

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
    3 days ago i noticed leopard had a swollen abdomen. He is also breathing rapidly. I treated with Epsom salt first with 1 tbs. Per 10 gallon with no results. I then upped it 2 2 tbsp. No improvement. Have not seen a bowel movement and abdomen still swollen. He does eat but spits most the food out.

    Swollen abdomen. Rapid breathing. He hides somewhat after he eats. Consumes small amounts. Spits most good out.

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
    Yes.. 24 hours

    8. Parameters and water source;

    So I moved this little guy to a hospital tank because he is definitely sick. I have kanamycin and metro coming tomorrow. Should I start with kanamycin and see how it goes or treat with both metro and kanamycin? Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    So I decided to treat with both metro and kanamycin. I plan on doing a 10 day treatment with both meds. Hopefully he will pull through. I'm leavileaving temp @ 82 because I believe he has a bacterial infection. Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Water quality can go downhill fast with these meds in combination. I would change 90-100% of the water each day and redose. You might not see any improvement for 6 days or so. Good luck. Its been my experience that fish rarely recover from this.

    Hi Jacklyn,

    He actually looked worse when i moved him to the hospital tank. I think from the stress. Treated with the first round of meds yesterday so hopefully we will see some improvement in a few days. Thank you so much for asking! Fingers crossed that he will pull through.

    So his fins have began to deteriorate. I'm hopeful he pulls through but at the very least I want to learn from this situation. It's difficult because I didn't want to treat with meds asap but second guessing maybe i should have once I noticed something wrong? Just didn't want to throw meds around when not necessary... a little frustrated but hopefully it's not too late ...
