Sounds like you're off to a good start! Do you have any particular Discus strains in mind? I can definitely recommend Hans Discus. But I bet all of the vendors associated with SD are great. No doubt, If they weren't they wouldn't be here.
    Love the pics!

ok fishless cycle started last evening and i got the ammonia level way too high...did 50% water change and is still high but better...i wondering if i should attempt another water change today or just wait it out ...the ammonia tested at 4ppm plus and i think is still higher than 4ppm. anyone have thoughts on this situation?

Are you using the existing filter that was already (mostly?) established? The main thing is to have the ammonia where it is easy to measure changes, from 1-4ppm. I wouldn't want it higher than 4. WCs are easy in a fishless tank, temp is less important and no ageing needed.

Yes I'm using same filter system
I'll do another water change so the ammonia is in a "measurable " range

    Fishless cycle day 2
still high ammonia today (over 4ppm) so we are doing a 90% water change
water testing 2ppm after the water change so I think everything is ok for now
getting some good experience with the water changes and a feel for water chemistry that will help me later when it counts with the discus in house

Good attitude Morgan! It took me a long time practicing water changes before me and my floors could remain dry. I was always popping hoses out of the tank or some other disaster. Practice helps before you are dealing with livestock in there.
Keep on keeping on. You will get there.

Ha ha! You are very welcome Morgan. Just calling it as I see it. From the start you have been asking great questions, practiced much patience and are more willing to do the work before jumping in. When you are ready for your discus, they will have the best chance to not just survive but to thrive and will reward you for all your preparation many times over.

    Day 6 of fishless cycling
Holding steady at 4 ppm ammonia
Adding Stability daily waiting on ammonia level to drop
