Update they spawned again on a PVC pipe I put in for them so maybe the male has a better shot at fertilizing the eggs since it would be more tightly grouped but more than half of the eggs fell down... I already used sandpaper to roughen it up maybe more? Anyone have any suggestions

Sanding the PVC will not help. The eggs have not developed the adhesive gland to stick to the PVC.
Eggs falling off the substrate on the first, second
and third day are underdeveloped even if they hatch
    out.

Each spawn is different, just have to wait for a better
stronger spawn. In the meantime make sure the water quality is good for hatching. You are inbreeding aren't you?

I don't know actually kenny just picked two of the same strain from his shipment and they paired up. I'm guessing its inbreeding?

May you can try to feed them with astaxanthin, it will help them to develop strong and importatnt number of eggs.

After a 10 day diet with this additive at 300µs try to change 30% of water during 3 consecutive days. Add this water slowly and gently (approx. 30min to achieve Water Change)
RO water could be added 2°C below the running temperature. (fresh water stream help them)

So they just laid eggs last night in Tap water around 250 tds is it too late to do a water change with RO water to get a better hatch rate?

A little late might as well let them hatch in tap this
    time.

Update: looks like 80% of them were fertile and turned dark after 36hrs but when 48hr came close and hatching was near the pair ate them! Going to use a mesh next spawn. Last time I used a mesh they were scared of it and decided not to fan the eggs? should i be worried?

How many spawns already? Worry about female going off her spawning cycle and the male getting tired.

Ahh man I feel for you. My 1st pair were exactly the same, after about 12 now I still ain't got any results. I watched them spawn just recently and I now know my male is just a lazy prick. I have pristine water conditions for good breeding but he's just not got the hang of it yet. Meanwhile, in the community tank (with conditions not entirely favorable), a pair of my red melons had 2 goes at it, no good. But on the 3rd go, I got around 50 to 60 wrigglers, once they got free swimming, it was a free for all with the others. They are now in their own tank so will see how it goes.
