    Default Hi all new here

G'day to everybody,,, I am Shaun from Melbourne Australia. Fishkeeper for over 20 years. I have around 2000ltr of water under management between 7 tanks.

I have recently set up a new 120g system with 6 discus and am absolutely loving it to say the least. First time keeping Discus btw. I bought juveniles 2" or so, in a month they doubled in size!!

No probs,,, as photbucket is a bit silly now i'll need to find another pic host site.
In the meantime, the tank is as follows:

Planted tank with Amazons, Anubias. Substrate PFS 1 to 1.5 thick , a piece of gold vine.

    90g 4x1.5x2 high
30g custom sump flowing around 900gph

    10 cardinals
    5 black neons
    1x Peppermint Bristlenose
1x L168 Clown Pleco soon to be rehomed and 6x Panda Corys to go in
    Discus are:
    2x Blue Diamonds
    3x Red Melons
    1x Blue Pigeon

Plans if any decide to pair off and attempt spawn will be to move them to new tanks in my fishroom. Then i will set them up in bare bottoms etc for spawning.

    Total system capacity around 440l

    Daily substrate clean with a 50ltr w/c and 1x weekly 50% w/c
Feeding 3x daily Food is Northfin Krill Gold 1mm pellet, Bloodworms, Freeze dried tubifex, beefheart only twice a week
Weekly rate of Nitrate production 5 to 10ppm

Not all true my friend,,, you could put 6 discus in a 200g but if you don't keep that water detritus and nitrate free, they won't be happy.
The only positive thing about having them in a large tank is that it just takes longer for things to go bad,,, if your a lazy bum with house keeping, the end result is still the same. You must grasp the concept of WEEKLY rate of nitrate production to get your stocking lvl correct and your w/c routine will be simple to manage. One must still watch nitrate creep though.
