Default No free swimming by fries after hatching

    Hi,

I planned of artificial raising of fry for my new leopard pair.

They laid egg on 28th Aug (Day 1).

I changed to 1 gallon container after 2 Hrs. 95% of the eggs were fertile.

After 60 Hrs, on 31st Aug Morn(Day 4) i found hatched babies fallen from the substrate.

On 2nd Sep ( Day 6), i shifted them to the shoe box container and given water inlet from one side.

Only some 30% of the fries started free swimming. Rest of them were lying at bottom.

On 4th Sep ( Day 8) Today Morn i started feeding them egg yolk mixed with little spirulina.

But After sometimes some of the fries were looked like, they are eating the fallen eggyolk.

But by today eve some 10%(25 fries) were dead and found with the fallen egg yolk eventhough there is water movement inside the container.

Still 30% of fries are not going free swimming. They lies at bottom.

What is the mistake i made?

I heard they all will start free swimming on 7th day itself

When all the fries will start free swimming?

When i should start feeding them?

Can somebody guide me in this?box.jpg

    Regards,

    Vasanth

The fry are attracted to dark color. I think your container should be solid white. http://www.simplydiscus.com/library/..._rearing.shtml

Egg falling off the substrate on the fourth day is early, an indication of some weak wrigglers. I feed
Centrum mix into my beefheart .
Feed free swimmer on day 7, that's when their egg sags are empty. Look at their little stomachs the
color should be grey's/yellow. Feeding on the side
of the shoebox or bowl is important because feeding
on the bottom of the tank will produce deformation
    at the mouth region.

I keep air stone just 1" before eggs in the jar.

I don't have some of the functions as you because
    I don't have permission.

As for the air stone I use an airline behind the subatrate.

    Cliff,

Can the filter mesh can handicap the fry before free swimming.
Bcoz all the fishes were lying in bottom.
They were moving only in bottom.
They didn't even try to swim to surface.
Then they were just found dead.

In your older post you mentioned we can feed liver mixed with egg white after 1 week of diet with brine shrimp.
    Do fish can digest it?
    Whether it ll accelerate?
    Can you pls explain?

    Regards,
    S. Vasanth.

I agree with White Worm. The fry are attracted to dark color. Try a dark container or put something inside the container that is black where you can spread the egg yolk on. Best of luck!

I also agree with WhiteWorm. The formula I have
developed there is spirulina added to the yolk just
to darken the color. That formula can be seen
on NADA website. Besides the yolk and the spirulina
APR and Metamucil are add for the sticking power.
With the Metamucil the yolk will
stay on the side of the bowl or shoebox from 7 am
    to 10pm without changing.

If you use a solid white container, the dark food stuck to the sides should attract them.

Vasanth, Why the wrigglers dropped off the substrate was because they were underdeveloped, they lacked
the adhesive gland. Usually by day 7 the egg sags should of been empty making their weight lighter
so they can free swim to the surface for the first
egg yolk feeding there is no other way. The filter
    mesh didn't cause this.

I feed the liver because it does take longer to digest.
Liver is a good filler for long hours away from home compare to brine shrimp which emptys their
    stomachs out too quickly.

If babies falls in mid of 60-72 hrs, they r not strong enough to become free swimmers?
Wat vitamin exactly I have to add for these nutrient deficiency for parents?

Can u pls tel about liver receipe tat v can follow?

    Wat are ingredients.

    Cliff,

i felt the filter mesh oly makes the babies no freeswim.
So I made it in side of the box with continuos water flow.
I smear egg yolk in the black panel and hang them in container.
I heard it ll b attracted to it. But practically I don't c any fries attracted to it lik I seen in YouTube.
They die in starvation Bcoz yolk not applied on sides of the box?
is it advisable to grow in shoebox in egg yolk feeding stage itself. Why I'm asking Bcoz in your method you are using bowl.

    Thanks
    S. Vasanth.
