    S. Vasanth.

Cliff is the master when it comes to artificial raising Discus.

If you are using egg yoke as the first food, I would follow the way Cliff does it, I do and many others with great results.

    Hi Rick,

I kno cliff is master in Artificial raising.
I used shoebox with filter Bcoz instead of changing bowl water for every 4 hrs or so.
So do u suggest me to use bowl instead of white shoe box which I'm using?
So oly I asked suggestion in that.

Moreover I can't find Apr n Metamucil which cliff specifies.
So I'm using crushed bbs with egg yolk mixed wit spirulina.
My receipe is ok for babies or any change is required.

    Regards,
    Vasanth

Vasanth, why are you trying to raise artificially instead of letting parents do their job?

Just for your info from my past experience, noticed some asian spotted pairs with weak gene. They do have a decent hatch rate, but during the 4th 5th day they fall off and die eventually.

I didn't read all the posts, even with artificial raising other factors like lighting/water quality/egg yolk mix consistency, container., etc matters.

    Hi Allwin,

Im raising the fry artificially only for the purpose of parasite free babies.

Can you pls explain about factor which influence like container and lights.

Currently my fish room is lighted in night also wit 8w cfl bulb.

Light is directly above the fry tank.

    Tat may be the problem.

Or Light should be kept OFF condition in night time?

Vasanth, frankly i don't see a reason to do artificially unless the parents keep doing a bad job continuously. I had some pairs took more than 15 to 20 attempts before they got it right, since i prefer the parents to do the job unless the pairs are fry eaters for ever.

I have tried several trial and errors and succeeded in few of the methods, whatever works for you worked for you. Egg yolk mix is good for frys but it needs more attention. I do with freshly hatched brineshrimp and focus the light as a narrow beam. check out my below YT link, i turned on the broader light for taking the video, its all your trial and error from now on

Until wat day v hav to feed eggyolk?

After shifting to BBS also can we feed eggyolk mixture?

    S.Vasanth,
I am looking at the last picture of the wrigglers and
around 80% are too weak with some
deformity especially on the 14 stress bar
wrigglers (snakeskin gene). On this spawn
there are or was around 20 to 30 wrigglers
that can be raised artifically or parental raise
if the parents don't eat them.
If I have a pair similar and
are spawning weekly I would artifically
raise that 20 to 30 Discus for about an month
or till I have around 100 fry then cross the pair
with another similar line from another breeder
or distributor otherwise your Discus will
be at the end of the line.

    Hi Cliff,

I've been here almost 6 yrs can you believe that?
It would be nice seeing you again, its been what? about 27 years since we met. Time goes by fast. Dick Au paid a visit 2 or 3 years ago, now it's your turn lol

I ran into and had a chat and wished him a happy birthday he just had, with my old friend Bing Seto...that was nice.

    Have a great day.

    HI Rick,
6 years really went by fast.
I see Dick Au locally sometimes around my area.
As for Bing Seto his birthday is a month after mine,
Benson at Pan Ocean has his birth 2 months before
mine all three of us were born the same year.

Dick and Bing both use the bowl method and produce massive amount of Discus. Last time
I talked to Dick about my method he called it
    a jump start.

    Cheers!
    Cliff

    Hi Cliff,

Im not a master in breeding.

Really i dont know to identify the deformed fry.

I just want to know that im failed in this bcoz i used the box instead of bowl?

I really couldnt understand why my fries not rushing towards the black panel which im using.

Can we start day BBS on day 7 itself?

    Regards,

    Vasanth

    Cliff,

I like to know about your liver receipe.

Can you tel us about the receipe, when we can feed them.

When we have to shift to heart mix.

    Regards,

    S. Vasanth.

    Vasanth,
How to identify deformation or problems.
Discus pair have instinctive eat their eggs or
wrigglers if they are too weak. For me after arising
so many batches I have come to same conclusion ,
but for the hobbyist they might think that the breeding pair just don"t want to raise their fry. Sometimes after say a dozen spawnings the
pairs will finally have a strong batch and raise
    their fry.

    Hi cliff,

I'm seeing the parents eating the fry in diff angle nw.
    Thank you.

Recently and first time one of my batch in artificial raising survived upto 13th day.
Lost some 15% of fry. That too oly at times of feeding egg yolk.

I'm seeing yellow in their stomach after feeding bbs.
But in morning, it s all empty.
I guess they starve at night since they couldn't feed anything.
    How to solve this issue.

I tried goat liver as a drop of liquid as u mentioned. But they don't show intrest of taking it.
So I removed liver drop after 10 minutes

What best we can do to avoid starvation at night times.
Because what I beleive is starvation in earlier days of the fish won't help in growth in later stage.
I guess u developed this liver concept to avoid night time starvation.
    Guide me in this.

    Thanks
    Vasanth.

    Hi Vasanth,
I bed the fry down by turing
off the light, this will slow their
metabolism and reduce starvation. Also there
    is no air too.
I know another breeder that will feed his
fry in the middle of the night, this
works too but now his wife left him
so only an alarm clock on his wife's
    pillow.

    Cliff,

I ll never try alarm for night feeding.. lol...
Im currently using blue florescent bulb for night. Will switch off that too.

Growth rate of artificial raising will match the parent raised one?
One of the batch which i told earlier survived till now.
They are 15 day old swimmers but im seeing some growth retardation while comparing the fry raised by parents.
Whether they both should be of same size or artificially raised one later will catch up the growth of parent raised?

    Regards,
    Vasanth
