Snakeskin breeding question

Hopefully Rod or Rick will see this and chime in, but advice from anyone is welcome.
Seems like I've read somewhere that you should not breed snakeskin to snakeskin because if the parents are homozygous for SS the fry will not survive. Is this true?
Is the SS gene recessive? If so, can you breed heterozygous SS x heterozygous SS and be ok?
Or should you just not breed SS x SS?
