Default Ghost Peppers and carolina reapers

    Hello hot food lovers,

Its the time of year I make salsa by the gallons and jar it for the winter. I make various heat level salsas as hots not for everyone. I grow most of what I use here for ingredients or buy it locally.

This year my peppers grew wonderfully... but unfortunately CT had a cool summer and the peppers are blah heat and flavor wise

Even habaneros grown locally are half what they should be. ..forget my jalapenos... they are more like sweet bell peppers.

So my purpose here... scounge up some hot peppers. I have to make a batch of ghost pepper salsa or hotter. My pride as a salsa maker and lover of spicy foods is on the line. Not to mention a friendly cash wager I have with a good friend of mine.

I have not been able to buy ghost peppers or carolina reapers here.I can not find them and even if I did... they would be poor quality if grown here this year.

Is anyone growing ghost peppers or reapers out there? Care to send me a bunch? I will pay shipping and for the peppers. Im also looking for a pepper I knew as "Tears of fire" A red habanero shaped pepper with thicker flesh then a habanero.

I have about 2 weeks left here for tomatoe season so that my time frame.

I realize its a shot in the dark but why not try?

while we are at... Any other members that like spicy, make spicy foods?

Just grew my first reapers and ghost's this year. Not a great success but enough for me. At our local co-op they have very nice Trinidad Scorpions. $4.00 a container about 8-10 a package all looked much better than my reapers but very similar in looks. I wouldn't be able to tell the two apart. Let me know if you want me to pick you up any....if any are left. My wife said they had a lot but it's been 3 days.

Whew, I can't stand that spicy. Props to you guys. Kraig, you are probably pretty well versed since you are already growing but my friend was having trouble with his Reapers (he got very few or most just stayed at bloom) until he started using fish emulsion I think he said on the plant. Apparently it started spitting out good peppers faster than he had anticipated.

Al, still looking for reapers? Lemme hit him up. He's growing Reapers from seed straight from Ed. I'll see if he has any extra if you still are looking for them. I know he uses them for salsa and such too.

I have two "chocolate ghost" plants growing, with about a dozen peppers on them, but they mature later around here. Maybe another month. I just put them back in my green house. If they turn out well I'll see if you're still interested.

I went searching after you said you had trouble finding them Al, I didn't realize the market was that hungry for them. You are right they look to be tough to find. Strange, I guess being 45mins away from the source you just hear about them often to figure they are plentiful but in reality there seems to be a pretty big market. I knew Puckerbutt advertises a few on social media when they have fresh ones and they go super fast, most if not all are limited to in-store as well.

Maybe I need to get me some seeds LOL. Won't ever touch my tongue though.....no sir.

Did you want them fresh or dried Al?

    Matt,
Fresh is always best. The ones Kraig sent me worked great in my salsa. Made quite a batch of hot stuff. Love spicy hot stuff but these guys were almost too much...almost!

I can always tell a good batch when my eyes burn and my throat closes up while cooking them

The best peppers always burn at least twice.

Your very welcome Al. Just a drop in the bucket of all the help I have gotten from you over the years. Can't wait for the package so I can feel the heat.

Matt, I do have some growing but they are just now starting to do well. We have had a very wet summer so maybe that is why I have had trouble.

I hope you are doing well my friend!
