    Default Power Filters

How often does everyone clean there power filters? I know they can become nitrate factories if left to long.

    Frank,
Do you use a prefilter on the intake?

In that case you probably should check them monthly and if you notice a drop in flow. I would definitely consider a prefilter though. It allows you to clean the filter easily without impairing your biological media in the filter. I lightly rinse clean my media in the aquaclears every few months, it doesn't foul up because the prefilter catches everything. It also gives the fish a better chance to get the food rather than it getting sucked into the filter,

Ok thanks Al, I have a Seachem HOB that has a large sponge across the bottom. I've been cleaning it once a week and just rinsing the media bag.
