Venison (Deer) Heart Mix
Anyone have any experience with a venison heart as a substitute for beef heart mix? I'm getting a deer heart from a friend that just went hunting and I'd like to try it out. Any tips or suggestions for a recipe? Thanks!

Re: Venison (Deer) Heart Mix
I hunt and have friends also that hunt so I have been using pure ground deer heart since last October. Venison meat is super lean anyway, especially so for the heart. For that reason it is a great substitute for beef heart. I do not mix anything with it, though you could if you want. Trim the blood vessels, membranes, valves and sinew until you have chunk of pure heart muscle. I dbl fine grind and freeze in 1/4" thick flats. My discus love it, and are super healthy & strong. Have at it!!

I have always wanted to use it but never any leftover after I fix my own meals.lol.
It would be perfect mix exactly as you would beef. I get beef hearts locally for 2 bucks each never wanted to waste deer parts. M

Danny. Yes I cook it just my mom used to cook beef heart. Venison is only a short time extravaganza I don't waste it on my beloved fish. Butter garlic very slow and low and send my wife off on a shopping spree. Plenty of onions make a rue gravey. To die for making me hungry waiting on next week. The last week for me to hunt this year.

Nice Tom! Sounds great. My youngest son (11) took his 1st deer 2 weeks ago, so I have to get my 12 yo in front of his 1st in the last 3 weeks of the season...not bad for an aussie
