    Default LED floodlight.

Was wondering if a 30W light will work on 75/90 g tank for discus or if it will be too bright.
Also wondering if I can add a dimmer on it just in case.

I am not planning to plant the tank but just looking to just illuminate the tank for cheap. I tried smd5050 lights on a shop light hood and it didn't work.

I would have to guess that a flood light would not be great for rectangular tank. Got it to illuminate the tank I would imagine it would have to be suspended pretty high above.

I suppose you can always give it a try.

Yes you can make it dimmable IF you have a dimmable led bulb in it and a compatible digital dimmer

I think is about aesthetics, you can always try a smaller light of some sort. I have used a 34" fluval led in a 48" tank. what it does is create a shade area and a " curtain" of light , that looks kind of cool and the Discus moved from one area to another as they please. I didn't have that many plants just a couple in faux-rock pot decoration was mostly driftwood.
I reverse back to a 48" light because need the small light for my plant/shrimps tank.
Breeding , interest and goals Wilds Heckels and Cuipeuas and a few Domestics pairs with occasional fry as well as Angels fancy Plecos , corys and shrimps.

30 W would not be too bright for a 75 gallon tank, but LED's do not work well with dimmers.

I would have to disagree on that point Willie. Leds work just fine with dimners as long as it's the proper dimmer.

Also a 30w led can be very bright. I convert 500w incandescent pool lights to led with a 17w led bulb

Yeah, I agree. Just sounded like this was driven by cost savings.

    I agree with that

For cost saving there are many diy led options but a flood light is probably not a great one. Waterproof led strips are extremely cheap online now and do full rgb and dimmable

with todays options, i'd buy a cheap led light bar with a wide angle lens that runs lenth of tank, they are pretty cheap now.

I am pretty happy with cheap waterproof (ip67) alluminium strips. Got 2x 100cm rgb 5050 and 2x 100cm cold white 2070 LEDs (produce a lot more lumens than 5050s) controlled by a tc420 (that does your timing/dimming/dawn/dusk/hue controll), if you shop around you should get the lot for 70 bucks or so (including power supply unit)
This is with just the white ones on at 20% power
