I got them from this thread http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...-U-or-Shipping

At the time I was traveling through Omaha weekly and made a stop. Steve didn't know specifically what kind of discus they are so he called them Orange Melons, lol... They were not very expensive so I bought them to see if my traveling schedule would be a conflict with raising them. I liked the way they turned out.

There seems to be a deformity in the anal fin on some of them but I strongly feel this is environmental due to my traveling schedule and lack of consistent care early on. I am going to grow some fry out before any leave my tanks. If it turns out to be genetic, I won't pass any along...

Any idea what I should be calling them? Orange, mandarin, melon, diamond? Definitely pigeon based. Like I said early on, the guy I got them from didn't specifically know either because they were not what he ordered...

I have sailed right past this thread since it started and just read the entire story. All I can say is wow, what a story. Yes, you can nit-pick faults with fish, but just look what you have done with them. My hat is off to you. Like you said from the get-go, "This is not for beginners".

Thanks Liz. I think it's an example of how easy it really is to keep discus as long as you start with good, healthy fish to begin with. I have some others in QT that I have been slightly struggling with and they have received better care.

Very very Nice Brian! I can't wait for them to pair up for you.

Not sure what they are but wow nice color! They look alot like Mandarins to me.

Several people are saying they are Red Melons, but they seem a bit too orange to be called red... One person suggested Orange Dream or maybe Tangerine Dream, lol...

This is one of my old MP's. A little more darkish through the fins...

Very nice mate, congrats on the spawn. Is the pair on their own or still in with the rest of your grow outs? All the best!

They are still in the community tank. The water has high TDS so the eggs won't hatch. I will probably leave them there for the first few spawns and hopefully they will learn to defend the eggs. Besides, I have been very busy with remodeling projects, including the fish room/spare bedroom, so I haven't had time to build a rack for their next home or fire up the RO.
