This is a lovely discus. To be honest it looks slightly (just ever so slightly) underfed in my opinion. But he looks happy and healthy otherwise. I like the long streamer off his top fin.

    Thanks jmf3460,

Yeah, he was on food strike for 3 days when I tried out a different brand of worms, so I had to go back and buy the "old" brand

A lot depends on how long you've had this fish. For a pigeon type discus, this looks stunted to me. It suggests insufficient water changes and a lack of high protein food. As a newbie, it's an accomplishment just keeping discus alive at first. Looks like you're there. The next challenge is to maximize the genetic potential with clean water and high quality food.

    Good luck, Willie
At my age, everything is irritating.

    Thanks!
I have had this one for 1 1/2 years. I feed them bloodworms only, it
seems that they won’t eat anything else.
What would you suggest for high protein food except worms?

Bloodlines are like candy. I recommend beef heart. Black worms also work, but I prefer to use them as a secondary feeding.

I prefer Al's FDBW (freeze dried blackworm) they will learn to love it even more than bloodworms. As Willie said above, bloodworms are like candy, they do not have a huge amount of protein in them for maximum growth

    Nice discus Johan .
How many do you keep ? Are all of them at the same age ?
Since they are past their growth stage , it will be much cleaner and easier for maintenance for you if you can switch them to dry food .
It takes a while to beat their stubborn appetites and attitude , but its well worthed on the long run .
