Default How Long Can Discus Survive on FDBW's alone?

I successfully brought the 4 fish in my QT tank back from the brink with API General Cure. They are now eating thankfully, but refusing all food but FDBW's. Given their delicate health, I am hesitant at this point to starve them for a few days to try and get them to eat Cobalt Flakes (I don't do beef mix). If these discus eat nothing else but freeze dried black worms, how many weeks can they survive? It is my understanding that it is not normal or healthy to feed discus a diet of 100% FDBW's forever.

my fish eat a diet of 100% fdbw by choice. I think most people on here feed diets of fdbw. that and beefheart

Do they grow big and healthy just eating freeze dried black worms?

I think so, here is a video of mine from today. now I will say I lied a teeny bit. in the summer they eat live mosquito larvae, and I occasionally give them frozen blood worms but I would say 99% of their diet is Al's biopigment FDBW

Also went to mainly fdbw and also mix in pellets as well. I have seen Al say he has had successful grow outs on his chow alone also I do believe

Humans can live a long time on fast food. FDBWs are obviously much healthier for fish than fast food is for humans, but you don't have to overthink what your fish are eating.

For a long time I was feeding only FDBW. They're so easy. My fish were fine. I eventually got them to eat Al's discus chow too, just because I figured the variety might add something worthwhile to their diet. I feed two or three times a day and use the pellets for one of the feedings. I think they're perhaps cheaper per serving than the FDBW too.

Good point Ryan...I'd think that you would have a better chance with Blackworms than Bloodworms but a varied diet is the better way to go

I think there's a sticky somewhere, but FDBW refers to blackworms, as far as SD regular usage goes.

I would agree with that but I do believe some could confuse it

So the answer is YES you can feed discus nothing but freeze dried black worms from California Blackworms and the discus will do just fine. You can also grow out 2.5 inch discus into big 6" discus feeding them nothing but freeze dried black worms (100% of their diet, always and forever).
