Thanks for the comments! I'm thinking about entering the photo contest, if only I could get a good photo with my phone!

The discus are settling in well now and the stress bars have diminished a lot, also had my first eggs today (8 days after they arrived) - all gone by tonight though.

The rams are also spawning a lot, had three spawns by different pairs this weekend, again they don't last too long though - not seen any get to the wriggler stage yet. In the bottom photo you can see the pits they are digging, one in each corner of the tank

A beautiful tank harper and nicely done. That larger sump was needed IMO

    Default 800 Litre Stenker Alenquer

Time for an update, need to change this thread title as I've changed things a bit and gone planted!

Discus are doing really well, and although I hadn't really noticed, comparing some of my older pics I think they have grown a bit too.
I have lost a couple of rams so down to 1 male and 5 females, and my cardinals numbers have been slowly diminishing, think I am down to around 20 now

I've also completed my HMA filter/aging barrel set-up, a pic of that included in mid-build. I notice the fish definitely look more colourful than they did pre-HMA, and the water seems to be really crystal clear

Your tank planted set up and your Alenqs look stunning Harper . Great job. Allthough not a biotope looking set up , I like your current tank look better .
I wonder what's your curent feeding and WC regime given the fact that you have almost 100 l of water per discus?

Thanks! I feed 3 times a day, beefheart mix, frozen brine shrimp & tetra prima. My aging barrels hold 220 litres each so I can change 440 litres at a time, I do that once a week at the moment

Harper, I nominated your second picture on post 21 for the October photo of the month contest. I really like the simplicity and black/white contrast your tank has. It gives the fish a nice distant effect, and the anubias really stand out.

On the full tank shot though, the plants tend to draw attention non-specifically towards the top of the tank. It would really balance out the appearance if some of the plants were situated lower and drew attention to something more specific, like an opening in the wood, a left or right third of the tank, etc.

When I was single, 25 years ago, I rented a Duplex. The landlords lived in the other unit. When I told them I wanted to purchase a 120 gal aquarium (61cm x 61cm x 122cm) w/ oak stand and canopy they asked me go into the basement and reinforce the floor joices immediately underneath the tank before I did anything. I obliged.

Interesting a house in Scotland without a full basement. Is that common? To have just a crawl space under the homes there?

Back on topic. Very nice selection of fish!
