Internal to External filter

Hi

I am currently running a successful 55 gallon corner tank with 6 discus and amazon swords.

The fish are healthy and the water quality is good but due to the site of the tank" near a window" the plants do get covered in algae brown and ruins the look

So I am changing to an external filter with a UV light on it, hopefully killing the algae.

My question is can i just put all the sponges and media from my internal filter into the new one and replace or do i need to run both for a while.

I want to just swap and be done with it tbh

You can just transfer the filter media. If the UV is actually going to solve any of your algae problems is another question...

It'd be a lot easier to either cover the tank or cover up the window.

Trouble is it my living room window and the rank can't be moved. Most shop experts told me UV was the way to go. I hope it works because apart from the algae everything was fine.

In the Classic Movie, Gone With the Wind, Scarlet didn’t have a dress to wear to the ball and her friend Melonie saved the day when she said, “We’ll use curtains!” I’m guessing you have a really big window?
I tried a UV light, and while it’s suppose to be good at preventing algae, it won’t get rid of existing algae. That’s my experience anyway. I found good info about types of UV lights here that’s worth the read if you do a search. Getting the right one would most likely help your chances. Good luck!
