    Default Veggies

    Hi everybody,

Just wondering what vegetables I can feed my discus? I have seen people feed their fish cucumber, is this ok for discus as well? Or is there other veggies I can feed them too?
I plan on making their fish foods in the future but for now I just wanted ideas on what they can peck at for a healthy snack..

    Thanks Pat,
Looks like there is no real need to feed my discus with veggies after reading that thread, I just thought it would benefit them, but maybe not the case. Though I do like the sound of the carrots cooked and mixed into their home made foods, I might add that ingredient into my list for the home made food I'm going to make them soon. Cheers

I remember reading in a Degan book years ago about a study they did on wild Discus and the only green matter they found was a tiny bit of alge that came from the freshwater shrimp they had been eating. I go tho the freezer and get some of the older frozen fish I have ( all saltwater fish mainly rockfish and salmon) then mix that with the beef heart along with some Vita Chem and thats all.

The salmon I use is from the ocean and they haven't been in freshwater since they were fingerlings. I stay away from freshwater fish, when I read on FB about people using Talapia I cringe, farm raised in filthy freshwater.. I have used fresh frozen Tuna no problem. I use any fish in my freezer they're all saltwater.

Here's a beef heart recipe that can be easily adjusted. It's on Simply somewhere but I can't find it, but Jason posted it on BIDKA...

I have not been on BIDKA in a coons age.

There are a bunch of recipes on Simply Sabrina if you care to look in the Food and Nutrition section of the forum. The reason for using saltwater fish is they do not carry any freshwater pathogens.

I sorry I should have explained why I only use saltwater, but Pat took care of that.
