A timer for lights is a must once you use them.You can go without lights until the water clears.Healthy plants will go a few days if you have them.You might want to blacken out your tank for 3-4 hole days"without peeking",must be total darkness.You can wrap a blanket around the tank.This will be a temporary solution until you come up with the problem.And your tank is not cycled yet so there's lots going on in the nutrient side of things.Plants/algae will use ammonia when no nitrates are available,so you have some nutrients there.I can leave my lights on for 8 hours in a planted tank and all is fine.The algae is just unsightly and fish generally like it.Altho,if you are over stocked and don't have good are flow and circulation,the fish could suffocate at night when the algae uses oxygen instead of carbon dioxide;rare but can happen.
