anyone successfully treated HITH?
wondering if it could be age related, my current lot of Discus are about 3 i guess, several of them have HITH.
i've tried upping water maintenance, i've tried treating with metro in food, two rounds.
i've tried adding zoey vitamin to food
nothing seems to have made much of a difference.
some heal, then come back, some Discus that didn't have it... now do. seems like a lot of internet theory, but i haven't found solid info on it yet.
wondering if any of you have had personal experience with it.
thanks

Re: anyone successfully treated HITH?
I have had pretty good luck reducing and eliminating HITH in 2-3 year old Discus with Dimetronidazole from Jehmco used as directed by Jehmco. Below are some other recommendations from Gastrointestinal Protozoal Parasites
In Clinical Veterinary Advisor, 2013
Acute General Treatment
Hexamita/Spironucleus
▪
The treatment of choice for Hexamita and Spironucleus is metronidazole.
▪
Dosage: metronidazole 1.0% (1 gram/100 grams feed) in the feed for 10-14 days; metronidazole can be mixed into a gel diet or top dressed on a commercial diet.
▪
Prolonged bath immersion: 5-6 mg/L (250 mg/10 gal [6.6 mg/L] of water); treat every 24-48 hours for 10-14 days. 50% to 75% water changes should be performed between treatments. Metronidazole can damage the biofilter.
▪
Infestations respond best to oral treatment. The author reserves bath treatments for anorexic fish.
Forgot to add that I also increased the stabilized Vitamin A in the diet, which also seemed to help.

belated thanks alight and jacklyn, i never saw these responses eariler : (
Jacklyn, i took purigen out.
Alight, fingers crossed but metro flake seemed to finally help, i added metro powder to food, as well as some other meds the web recommends in a serial progression, but didn't have much luck. thinking because when i mixed it with beefheart, it went into the water mostly, instead of into them.
