Default Transition Discus fry from brineshrimp to other food

    Hello,

When is an appropriate time to transition Discus fry to other food such as beefheart, flakes or discus gran?

When their mouths are big enough to fit in the new food introduce it for a feeding here and there. Flakes after a couple weeks grind it up with your fingers a bit, beefheart usually about a month. If its home made I like to throw a couple of cups back through the grinder a second time at the end so make sure its extra fine for the fry. Im not sure what discus gran is but if its small enough for them to eat then introduce it to them.

I feed the fry holding a block of beefheart on one hand and using a cheese grater on another
hand, usually around one to two weeks old
    depending on the color strain.

I do the same as Cliff except I soak it in water and mince it before tossing it in the tank. I wean my fry 12 - 14 days free swimming. The earlier you can get them off baby brine shrimp, the faster they'll grow. My experience is that there's virtually no growth on bbs after three weeks.
