Lightbulb Uncle Sam's Discus tip of the day: Truth about hormoned Discus.

Uncle Sam's Discus tip of the day:
    Truth about hormoned Discus.
Hormone is used in the production of tilapia to produce male tilapia. All male tilapia are preferred because male fish grow faster than female fish. Fry are fed a high protein diet containing hormone during the first 21 to 28 of hatching. During this time naturally female fish which are 50% of the population will be changed to male fish (success is usually 95% to 100%). The same thing happens to any cichlids specially Discus. This is why a lot of strains out there are very exclusive to one breeder. They use hormone to make sure nobody can breed them only sell turnt females to male. Some females will keep their gender but their fertility rate is at the bare minimum or zero. If you're wondering why a lot of Discus out there won't breed or has no hatch rate at all here's a solid answer for you. Next tip how to spot hormoned Discus.... Stay tuned!

I am on pins and needles for you to post the second installment. I have been burned twice with hugely expensive fish that were apparently hormoned. I have my story to tell. This has happened to me twice. I will not mention names but I would like to tell my stories. I would like to hear more from you first. What drives me crazy is that there is no way to prove this because once the fish are in my tank the testosterone has already done it's damage and is out of their system.

Now that would be quite a twist to the story.
