Default White dot on tail. May be lied to.

    Hi all.

This is my first post. I had discuss as a kid and now started the tank for my son. It's been up and running for a few months now.

I bought two san Maria three days ago and one had white dots on its tail and the shop said it was due to his ph droping and told me it's calcium and there is nothing wrong with the fish. I now noticed the other fish has the spots on the top fin but seems to look a little different.

So my question is do I have anything to worry about? did he lie to me?
Ste my other fish sy risk?

    Thanks in advance.

well, yes you were lied to, but its not something unfixable. the white dots are not calcium. That's quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've heard to date on this forum. But these are still really good looking fish. Those just look like pimples, discus get them when the water isn't quite as clean as they need it. Even professional discus keepers that have been doing this many years can experience a pimple every now and then when they get behind on water changes. For example when I go on vacation and skip several days in a row of water changes, my fish usually get a pimple. I also thing that your fish could benefit to some salt added to their water.

Yup, agree with Jacklyn and would also suggest adding some salt. I do think the white dots on the fin rays should be watched. Either the rays have been broken or the fungus has caused a decline in the hard ray.

Thankyou jacklyn and pat. I'll add salt.
How can you see they need salt?

The salt is to try and clear up those white areas on the fins.

Thanks Pat. Is it a good idea to always use salt or just when needed?
