Default Do water parameters matter for growing hatchlings beyond clean water?

    Greetings,

I have a really nice pair of neon sapphires that are spawning like mad. I was wondering if your water is clean do the other parameters matter for growth? i.e., pH, TDS, beyond ammonium, nitrite, nitrates.

    Thanks!

Young fish need minerals for growing. Some folks here have grown out fry in RO waste water.

I've been going with the advice from one of our more knowledgeable members here, Rod. As Pat said, they do need minerals. Hardness up to around 180 ppm is beneficial. Beyond that does not hurt, but isn't more beneficial. Once they're acclimated to it, you can raise them in very hard water. My well water is about 400 ppm, pH 8+. No problem for the fry.
