    Dave,
Glad you are having fun with the Canon. I like the bird in flight. Nice feather spread on it (cardinal)?. The gold finch has some great colors to it. I love when they hang out at my feeders.

What are you using for a lens? How about post processing software?

So glad to have a another birder on board!

Al, the Canon came with a lens bundle that included the EF-S zoom, 55 - 250 f4-5.6

Now that the weather's changed I've been seeing what it can do and so far I'm pretty happy with it. The processing software is on my laptop, not sure if it's windows or HP but now I'm curious. I brightened up the Cardinal a bit.

I've found it's also a great birding tool. I took a couple of shots of a raptor flying by, way up, my settings weren't right and I only had a second or two but it turned out to be a Peregrine. I never would have had time for an ID with only binoculars.

Hey Pat, I've seen a few of your pictures, nice composition and clarity.

Nice Hawk Pic. We get alot of coopers here migration time thru the coastal parks..The do hawk watches and bandings at several of them. I remember how excited I was when I got to spend some time at one as part of my Ornithology class in college.

The camera definitely makes ID easier ,, many times I used mine to check out in leisure at home what I saw and make a positive ID. Its actually why I first started taking pictures. Now I take them just because its an awesome hobby and fun.

is you sharpen that image and pump up the saturation a bit I bet it would pop. If you want to email me the original, be happy to see if what I can do. I'm not an expert but so-so at post processing.

It caught a Morning Dove. In the second picture you can just make out that it still has it as it flew off.

    Hi Dave,
Got your image and just did a real quick Post processing.. nothing fancy, ...

    Your original ..

    IMG_0964

    Your Cropped image...
    IMG_0964 (2)

    My processing..

I cropped it a little different to frame the body of hawk long ways.., then sharpened it a tad and shifted the base curve.

    IMG_0964

I also tried to bump up the saturation a little.. The editting program I use has a tool called "velvia" it basically simulates the old fuji velvia film tones which were rich in greens best I can tell.

    IMG_0964_01

The image you posted was really not that bad off, just needed a tad pp to make it pop alittle , Your original image uncropped was actually pretty cool itself.

I'm sure theres much more than can be done with this image, but thats just the basics.

Nice Al, it's pretty amazing what you can do digitally. I'll have to spend some time post processing some of my other shots.

    I appreciate the help.

    Dave
