Default Neo's - Contest Thread (LyreTail Guppy Tank)

    Untitled.jpg

I got a few guppy fry at my local fish club, one of them has grown into a really nice LyreTail. Now i have him in a planted tank with a few other female guppys of different strains to see what kind of fry show up (Hoping for LyreTails )

I haven't seen Lyre tail here locally before, if I did I would pick some up to try and cross out. Getting fry here would be a great thread to follow along on, so I have my fingers crossed for you!

Does that tank run Undergravel filtrations? What plants do you have in it?

Thanks!! It has a Marineland Eclipse filter, It’s present overhead just below the hood and has a flat rectangular cartige and a bio wheel.

The plants in the tank are:

    In the front:

    Anubias Barteri
    Java Fern
Banana Plant (Just looked up the scientific name - Nymphoides aquatica, but it does look like a bunch of tiny bananas with leaves growing out)
    Cabomba
    Vallisneria

    In the Back:

    Hornwort
    Red Rotala
    Couple of Moss balls
    Naja Grass
    Vallisneria

On first glance today evening everything seemed normal, That is until i took a closer look at the Banana plant leaf... There is a smooth perfect bubble (Note to self : All bubbles are smooth) ,but i can't think of a better word to explain it. It reminds of Mercury that i saw in my school Physics lab so long ago...

Now i have been trying to come up with a reason how this bubble came about... Anyone wants to give a shot at theorizing how the bubble got there.

Ok I’ll take a guess. Since the leaf is at the top of the tank, I’d guess it’s grabbing 02 from top with normal water agitation. I’d be pretty easy to grab water from minimal bounce in that split in the thin leaf.

This is a possibility, but the other leaf didn't form this kind of bubble. Maybe its the position of this leaf that lets it accumulate the O2. But both leaves are gone now and new ones are sprouting towards the top of the water. will try to capture more frequent pictures to see if this bubble phenomenon is repeated.

There is some new growth in most of the plants in the tank, but there are no plants present directly below this leaf. This banana plant is present at the front and there is a bit of open space and then other plants are present.

Love the tail on that male. Do guppies eat their babies? My sister and I had a tank growing up but that was a looong time ago. I think we had guppies although nothing like the ones you have.
