I did lower the water too on the first day of free swimming, but water was going bad very fast. And talking about sponge omg ! I saved 35 fry atleast that stuck inside :/
I don't know how many more were inside I could see some through the sponge but they are so deep inside that I can't save them, lesson learnt there. Hope I see only few of the peppered kind lol

Sanjay, theres 2 types of hydrosponges
One is called "professional" The pores on these are larger /coarse. I personally didnt like them as much as the regular hydros. I use the finer hydro pored ones... the discus fry cant get into these.

    I use the basic Hydro-Sponge #5 (4”h x 5 3/4” dia. sponge) for a 29gal breeder. part number

Sanjay, I'm glad I saw this, I'd like to try it. Where did you buy the blue light? I assume it's a fluorescent, right? Thanks, -Don

Don, I'm using the Current-USA Led lights on this. It has an option to switch to dark blue lights. Good Luck

Had to separate the female out, she went crazy and started picking on the fry. It’s just he male now,
hopefully he’s not stressed too much. Will mostly separate the fry soon. Pic of 1 week fry(from free swimming day)

Hi Sanjay. It's not unusual to have to pull one of the parents. I'd see how long they can get along with the remaining parent, and don't remove him until you see a need, until they're maybe 1.5-2 cm, when they start really looking like little discus.

Thanks Steve, I was going to remove the fry today. But I may wait for until the fry are 2 weeks old ? Male is doing good, but I do see him at times shaking them off and getting a quick breather(not too often, but I catch him doing that twice a day). Not sure if that's common ?

I do think that's common. Like you said, he takes a break. Sometime it seems like good parents are training the fry.

So with the genetics of this pair can anyone predict what percentage will have a solid look? Would they most likely be red like dad, or yellow like mum, or orange cause of the red/yellow blend?
I have been relating to Sanjay about the fry from this pair as i am interested in a grow out project...
