should you aerate the water you are seasoning?

I know the water temp/PH should be brought up to match the tank it will be used in. Is there any benefit from running an air stone for the 24 hours I plan to age the water before its use?

yes. Aeration is necessary to make the pH's match.

With the extra large WC's that discus require,it's best to use aerated aged water.It removes gases and stabilizes the ph that can be dangerous.Small 25% WC's can be straight out of the tap;most of the time these small changes are fine.It will also remove the chlorine which my city uses.Yours might use chloramine;in that case you can add a conditioner to your tank not in the aging barrel prior to the WC.

I surely agree w the earlier posts abt pH and gases. In addition, aerating the bottom of the aged water tub will increase water mixing so as to prevent different temps in different spots and moving water is always preferable to water sitting still, almost stagnant-like. I aerate and heat my water in my 45 gallon tough plastic garbage can to one degree above the tank temp. Lastly, to make transfer easier, I have a pond fountain pump installed in the can w a garden hose. Simply turn on the pump and aged temp matching water goes into the aquarium. I always test my aged water can for pH, KH, and GH so I know I'm putting in the same water as what I removed earlier from the tank.

Or instead of an airstone you could use a small wavemaker, for the same wattage you get a lot more water movement (3w=650 gal/h)
