Thank you for all of your replies

After reading all of comments, marketing hype kicked in.

Buy discus and get little jade elephant for free yo!

I agree with Paul about the quality of discus vs ethic/moral as well as crude knowledge of Thai.
(after all, we are talking about a country that motorcycle reverse run in the traffic as if it's normal.)

Most of those beauties in the pics above were imported from Malaysia.
Seems like in Thailand the tap water contains too much chlorine and a bit too hard.
(while in Malaysia, some farms even dump tap water in directly, or so I've heard.)

    I also got "advice" from some shops like;

    1. If you are newbie, you should start from 2" juvies.
    2. Don't WC too many time, couple a week would be fine. Since the smaller fish scales are still weak (wutttt???)
    3. Food? Tetra bits+FBW are fine.
    etc etc

Imagine what would my discus life would be without knowing simplydiscus.

Cyrus thanks for the pics! Great seeing in images what many us will never see in person. Sometimes I think with the abundance of cameras and smart phone we take for granted just how amazing it is to be able to take a picture of some far off land and share it.

I do have a question though maybe you and others could answer ... Are there any chain stores there? Im guessing not? I would think thats one reason theres so many small independent shops.

    Hello Al,

Agreed about phone's camera. Now I'm using 200$ phone and it produces more than OK images (or so I convinced myself.)
I stopped my iPhone streak since original one, once I went to the shop and iPhone X was 1200$ or something.

Someone in my head just yelled "1200$? THAT IS 12 BEAUTIFUL DISCUS FOR GOD SAKE!"

And by the chain stores, if you mean "Big-box" pet store like Petco that you guys have in the states, then no.
There are supermarkets like Tesco or so, but they don't sell pets (only pet food etc.).

So, it's kind of inconvenient in a way for pet owners around here, but we've to learn to improvise.
Also, one more good thing, I don't have to rescue some random bettas from such place lol.

    Hi Cyrus,
Have you gone to see Kitti Discus Fish Farm. I was wondering if he is still there or not.

    Thanks,
    Cliff

    Hi Cliff,

I am not familiar with Kitti farm. I found his homepage but seems like it hasn't been updated for years though...
