Not a great way to start the day! You reach your hand into your water storage barrel to test the temperature and ZAP!!!

I really hate that feeling. Sometimes its a little numbing this time it was a full blown numbing to the elbow followed by some very loud and inappropriate cursing!. Heater seal went and it filled with water...

The black junk is water...

Ouch !Ouch Ouch!

At least it kicked out sometime recently and not in the middle of the night as I at least had warm water. I am however glad I keep a few spare heaters!

I bet that hurt Al. I for whatever reason can not seem to keep glass heaters without blowing them out. Titanium heaters work better for me...or at least longer lol

No bueno mate, glad you're ok. I got knocked out cold from a faulty heater incident when I was 13...the jolt threw me and I hit my head on the concrete floor in my fish room...ahhh, so that is whats wrong with me ;P

Luckily I never had this kind of incident my self.
I can only imagine that unpleasant pain youve felt there Al .
With the level of maintenance required by discus I guess that Pat suggestion about having a titanium heaters in our tanks is right on spot .

I've gotten a tickle a few times but nothing bad. My worst incident was when I heard a breaker trip hard. I walked down to the fish room and there was a fire! A faulty heater caused a fire in my water storage tank. It was ablaze! The first thing I thought is, " my water is on fire" then I saw that it was the plastic lid on the container. I took it off, tossed it out the door and put the fire out with water. It was very scary. If I hadn't been home, or had been outside and not heard the breaker my house would have burned to the ground.

One of my many mutts a few weeks ago suddenly decided to cick his leg up a row of sockets in their bedroom...now that must have been unpleasant!
