    Default +Updated pics+ My 12+1

    Hi all,

A few weeks ago, I posted some pics of discus in shops around my area,
and some of you were kind enough to ask for my own collection.

I am a discus newbie and very glad that I found this site and community.
For this past few months, thanks to you all, I've learned a lot, enjoyed even more
(as well as dumped a lot of water down the drain,)
and hopefully would continue to do so in the future.

Tank set up is 60"x24"x24" = 150 gallon with internal overflow filter system (so effectively 130 gallon-ish)
Plants: Some Anubias nana and Java ferns attached to the drift woods.
Substrate: Used to have 0.5" dark sand, but tried so hard to get it out. Months later, still some left.

    OK, enough for boring intro,
let me introduce you my prisoners!!!

    3 mth.jpg

These are my original 8 (one was hiding somewhere).
If I remember correctly, I got them late Mar... or early Apr...
    Well, honestly, I don't know...
    There were 3-3.5" I think.

Now these are photo taken today.
(as always, excuse their off-focus and such lol)

    Red Melon#1

    IMG_20180811_173452-01.jpg
    Red Melon#2 aka Ms. Butt-hurt.
For some reasons, white balance was weird. She's a lot redder in person.

    DSC02008-01.jpg
    Red Spider/PB#1

    DSC02010-01.jpg
    Red Spider/PB#2
This one's pattern changed so much for this past few months.
It's the one on the most right in the first photo.

    DSC02007-01.jpg
    Red Spider/PB#3 aka Ms. White-poop.
    The runt of the bunch.

    DSC01989-01.jpg
    Golden aka Mr. Yellowed.
Yep, he was yellow. Now he's trying to make out with Ms. Butt-hurt every once in a while.

    IMG_20180811_171510-01.jpg
    Red Turquoise.
One of my most favorites and the biggest of this original 8.
    He's about 5.5" now I think.

    IMG_20180811_174413-01.jpg
HB Blue diamond aka Diamond the ripper.
He's a psycho and the reason I said +1 in the title.
He was the smallest one when I got him as you may see in the photo,
but he decided to fight for his life... and just got too far... and became a psycho.
He rammed into every one within 2 feet and terrified everything in the tank.
Now he's in separate tank, the only one discus in that tank.
(He got other fish as friends though, he does not attack them.)
Water change is not just a chore, it's my life now...

Now the newer set of the bunch that I added couple months later

    DSC01983-01.jpg
Red pearl turquoise? The (most) stunted of the bunch but so much personality in her.

    IMG_20180811_173142-01.jpg
CKB/PB#1 The Beta of the tank. aka Mr. I'd eat so much til I bloat.

    IMG_20180811_173107-01.jpg
CKB/PB#2 I love her heart shape.

    DSC01981-01.jpg
Albino Golden PB#1 The shop said it's a "she" but... I don't think so.

    DSC01979-01.jpg
Albino Golden PB#2 The last but not least. Actually he's my most favorite and the biggest I have right now.
This guy alone costed more than the whole first batch of 8 lol.

Yup, that's it for my 12+1.
I also have 7 more juvies in grow-out tank but nothing too fancy in there.
(Hopefully I can raise non-stunted ones at last?)

    Cheers.

    Very cool Cyrus,

    thanks for posting.

I see I'm not the only one giving names to their fish . It kinda comes naturally, doesn't it?

Which of the shops you posted did you get the fish from in the end?

Either way, nice to see another one caught with the discus bug. Keep reading and sharing, best way to learn.

    Tobi

    Tobi

    Hi Tobi,

    Thanks for your reply.

Discus naming came naturally since I have a 7yo boy.
It's a lot easier to refer by name on the phone lol.

My discus came from the 3rd shop. Most of them are locally bred, with reasonable price.
Only Albino golden pair were imported from Malaysia,,, and they are my most favorite
    (well, I'm a simple man).

The worst thing about catching discus bug is that I could barely walk around
discus shop and do window shopping...

    IMG_20180821_073635-01.jpg

The learning curve of NOT to bring fish home compulsively is so steep.
Water change is not just a chore, it's my life now...
