Very nice! I like the way the water froze in #2
I went with a couple friends to the Cocoa Beach Pier to shoot the sunrise and maybe the early morning surfers. The waves were suppose to be larger then normal due to the hurricane. I came back with this...
Beach Comber
Early Morning Surfing

Very nice, they really convey the moment. any info about the technical side? Not that I would like to know much: just what camera, lens, exposure, filters, postprocessing....
The composition in both pictures could be used as textbook for the rule of 1/3, on the 1st one you have the lot: foreground interest with the birds, leading lines with the pier, the lot!

I loved the first one but the second one totally blew me away.

Thank you Paul, what would you like to know? The first image was a three image bracketed shot merged as an HDR. Lightroom was used for postprocessing the three images into and do some minor adjustments like clarity. I also applied a local brush to boost the yellow where the waves are receding.
A three image HDR are where the three (or more) images as taken of the same scene; a normal exposure, a darker exposure and a lighter exposure. The intent is to capture all the possible color of the scene including that in the highlights and shadows. The images are then merged together into an HDR (high dynamic range) image.
The second image was a single shot which was a little under exposed and I brought the exposure up and did some basic adjustments to bring out the water and surfer a bit.
Equipment wise I was shooting with a Nikon D5 using a wide angle lens on the first image and a 500mm prime lens on the surfer. If you wish to see the EXIF data click on the image which takes you to Flickr and look in the right hand corner of the screen for exposure, shutter speed etc.

That sunrise photo is marvelous Pat .
I think taht you have way overcomed the amateur level of your hobby and your photography skills .
First photo is my favorite. I love the silhouettes. I need a landscape like that to shoot. Second is a great action shot but it just doesn't catch my eye like the first. I really need to blow the dust off my stuff and get back out there, the first image gives me a lot of motivation to do so.
