Hello Pat, firstly congrats with the really nice results.
I have been following the growing out threads and learned a lot about them.
Well i got a problem and is: the batch im growing out now... almost every one got a curved gill plate.. and i dont know why... AI said it could be a bad protein mineral ratio... have u ever had this issue? how did u fix it ?
Thank you!!!1
Hi XIHOHORORORO, I am not sure if this has been answered for you. One thing I noticed when these guys were younger was they would have flared gills while eating. I asked Al about that and he say that this is not uncommon when eating as the fish are giving off ammonia causing the gills to work extra hard hence the flaring. On the mineral question you will really need to ask Al this question so a pm to him might be in order.

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
Hi guys, my updates have been a bit irregular lately and there is a reason why. My mother has been in the hospital twice over the last five weeks and is still there today. She is 87 and in a state of decline. My sisters and I have called in Hospice as she needs help with mobility and we are trying to make her last days as comfortable as possible. So you can guess where my mind has been lately.
Now on to the fish. They are doing great despite an irregular WC and eating schedule. On the last update Combo noticed that one of the SS is larger then the two turks whom had been the largest ones. That SS is indeed the largest one now. All ten fish are looking great and even the two smallest ones have great shape. Here's the pics....

Pat, I’m so sorry your mom is in the hospital again. I’d been wondering about her and had hoped for better news. I’m sure you’ve got your hands full. I’m so sorry. She is in good hands with you though. Just so sorry you have to go through this.
Your discus look great in spite of what life is throwing at you. Please let me know if I can do ANYTHING to help. I’m not that far away and I’ll be available after tomorrow.
Patty

Pat so sorry to hear your mom is not doing well. As a nurse I understand how emotionally challenging and physically taxing the hospice level of personal care can be. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
As always, the discus are looking spectacular. Their color and shape is top shelf, and a testament to your exceptional knowledge and care.
All the best mate!

Thank you Danny, my goals for my mom is to give her the best quality of life possible given the current limitations. We shall see how this works out in practice. I have not walked this road yet.
A big thanks to Al for the health and quality of the fish. They are rolling with the punches just fine
