    Default New fluffy sheepdog

Management decided life is too short to wait any longer for a new fluffy. So here is little Nix (and on Saturday the 8th October I am going to Rome airport to fetch another dog from a rescue in Sicily)

Such a cute puppy! We got a Lagotto Romagnolo. Are they more common in Italy? There are certainly more in Australia than the States and are concentrated around areas with greater italian heritage.

Plenty of Lagotto around here being truffle area here in Abruzzo (Just Black truffles and Summer truffles), not too fussed about truffles myself. Puppy is an Abruzzese (aka Maremma) sheepdog, we lost our beloved old one a month ago

He is also a budding fishkeeper, as soon as I let him in the garden he fell straight in the goldfish pond!

This is actually a purchase and not a rescue. This morning on the other hand I set off at 5 am to go to Rome airport to get the 4th rescue dog from Palermo (Sicily), they decided to send it by air but unfortunately got a phone call 1/2 way there to say he was too freaked to load on the plane, will have to think of a plan C (as over a year ago plan A also failed as they could not seize the dog yet from the owners who were mistreating it).

Will you have to drive to pick him up Paul (assuming that is possible) or is there another Plan C?

The original plan A was for them to send him up via one of the many approved "dog taxi" services but as mentioned that failed as the original owners would not give the dog up, now the dog has been seized from them. We could try plan A again or see if at any time anyone of the Sicilian doggy welfare association is taking the overnight ferry to Civitavecchia (port North of Rome), I could meet them there (about 7 hours round trip). I can't really drive all the way to Sicily to fetch him as it would take a day each way and Sandra can not physically manage to look after all our rescues all on her own. I don't actually ask them to send dogs to me, they ask me to take in the ones that for various reasons (health, behaviour and so on) are not fit to be given to a "normal" family. Over here at least in theory by law a dog can not be put down unless genuinely dangerous or suffering beyond relief, but that coupled to the scarce neutering does create a big problem. We mostly adopt (or rather get adopted) from the local rescues in our province, there is a lot of abandonment and neglect but it seems in Sicily there is also a lot more real cruelty so we try and take in a few from there too
