    Default Marble Hatchetfish

So I put some dither fish in my 75 gallon after rehoming a Raphael Striped catfish.

Here is a Marble Hatchet reflected in the surface of the tank.

Very nice photos. I also have a soft spot for Carnegiella but keep them in my Southamerican community tank rather than with discus. Have you kept them together before? Interested to know if it works

I have had great success with silver hatchets and discus.Hatchets are one of my favorite tetras and this one only takes up the very surface of the tank.

    I have not tried before.

I rehomed my very large Raphael Striped Catfish, and as there aren't discus in this tank yet I added some hatchets, Cardinals, rams, and schwartzi cories.

I am saving up to add discus to this tank again.

This will give the Cardinals and Hatchets some grow time.

So do the silver hatchets venture a little further from the surface compared to the marbled?

    Thank you Pat.

The hatchets seem to be hiding under the leaf cover of the Anubias..... yes that is only one plant.

I know Anubias are not South American plants, but it grows well, and keeps nitrates down. I just added some Floating Red Root to the tank.

    Thumbs up for hatchet lover!
    Great photo as well.

I also have a school of 6 common (silver?) hatchets in my 67g with 5 discus.
They do pretty OK with each other. Mostly hanging out at the surface, so not so much interaction (in my book, that's a good thing.)

I always wanted marble ones, but they are quite rare around here and all are imports.
The price is kinda ridiculous, 1 marble hatchet = so so quality 3" discus or something...
Water change is not just a chore, it's my life now...

They seem to all stick to the surface and are jumpers. The silvers grow bigger at about 2.5 inches;at least mine did.

I have good lids on the tank

I thought I had lost one due to stress the day I brought them home, but last night I was able to make a count of eight three times so I don't think I lost any.

I am currently feeding crushed flake twice a day, and a small cube (1/4 inch) of freeze dried tubifex worms once a day

I have a good lid on my tank too, was worried to start they would freak during water changes (even with no discus in that tank I still like to do 75% wc, in for a penny in for a pound). Never had a problem in years, even when I put both hands in the tank to give the plants a haircut. Marbled hatchet fish have been one of my favourite for years now.
