    Default Sterilizing plants

I posted on the end of the sticky for PP with no replies. Also searched but couldn't find a specific answer, so here's my question; what do peeps "sterilize" plants with, and for how long, prior to introducing them to their discus tanks? I want to secure some java fern and anubias to my wood pieces.
    Thanks!

I got this from Adam S a while ago.

"For a quick "dip," go with alum powder. You can find it in the spice section. 1 tsp per quart and soak for 5 minutes. Something like a plastic dishpan is handy for this. My preference is a month long QT with copper to completely eliminate snails/hydra/planarians/etc., but alum is pretty effective. I wouldn't worry about parasites or disease."

I was told by the guy I bought my anubias that a swish around in a bucket with a 20 to 1 Clorox solution would do the job.

Thank you Steve and Liz. It is disease & parasites being transferred from an LFS to my tank that I was concerned about. I appreciate you both responding!

Ive responded there and I'll copy my answer here for future browsers .

Bleach /water solution in 19/1 ratio (or a 5 % bleach ) .Dip the plants for 2 minutes and then rinse well under tap water and straight in to a bucket of water with five folded dose of dechlor agent(i.e. seachem safe ) .

PP - 25 ppm solution for 10 hours maintained purple and redosed if it gets brown during the plant bath .

Both treatment are considered safest for killing the protozoan cysts(our most resilent enemies ) but harsh and harmfull for plants too .
