German Blue Ram behavior

I have a female German Blue in spawning colors with an egg laden belly, and I have a male that is her mate courting her. This male has been pushing the Schwartzi corries and bristlenose plecostomus (some as large as seven inches long) around as he tries to claim a spot in the tank.

I find this interesting as he also only has tolerance for the female... right now there are three males and one female in the tank (I tried to add a female, and picked a male ...) I have two females coming so that should lower aggression amongst the rams.

I think a storm might be coming in as the plecos are acting like they want to spawn as well including digging a large hole under their breeding cave in the gravel substrate.

it is fun watching that tank.

I thought I had purchased a second female due to the dorsal fin and coloration, but had a bit of doubt as it didn't have the blue speckles in the black spots... yup I chose wrong and got a third male, and that made the Rams really active with their chasing after each other.

I have two females coming that will go in that tank making three males and three females.

I also have a breeding pair coming for my 20 gallon tank in the bedroom.

Definitely the most animated of fish and a lot of fun to watch. Too bad their life cycle is so short.
On my last order I didn't notice on the specs that it was described as a Bubble German Blue Ram, as it still carries the Mikrogeophagus ramirezi name as well. Same colleration and behavior.. . they're just of the chubby variety.

mine are only chubby due to their love of Al's freeze dried blackworms.

I feed them Ken's fish "Angel and Discus flake" in the morning and freeze dried blackworms at night.

I've found that they're not fussy and eat what ever I make for dinner :-D

Well I find house flies to be too big for them... darn it. I used to stun the flies with a fly swatter and throw them in with my discus and angels (when I had them) and the flies would be gone quickly.

Now the Rams will follow me as I squish pond snails, and will vigorously eat the snail meat.

They do have good color. We have a good fish store an hour away (both freshwater and marine), and the owner gets good stock.

I have a breeding pair coming to the house from an auction I won on Aquabid as well as two nice females. The females will go in the 75 making three of each sex, and the pair will go in my one of my two 20 gallon tanks. When the time comes I will replace the heater and light on my other 20 gallon as the tank is cycled with filter running, but no fish anymore as the corries and plecos in that tank got cooked when a submersible heater failed and turned the water up to 100 degrees.
