Default Returning to Discus after a long break.

    Greetings everyone:

The discus bug has called me again and I'm back. Some of the oldtimers may remember me on simplydiscus til around 2008, and a founding member/board member of NADA. Due to starting a small business, I was unable to keep going with Discus so I took a long break. However for the past 18 months or so, I've been keeping and breeding a varity of fish, plecos, Apistos, and few other fish. But we all know, once you have discus, nothing else quite does it.

So I'm heading back to discus, I have been building up my fish room from pretty much two 75's and 55 to 12 tanks, all sized for discus.....Thank you, Petco $1 a gallon sale. Due to still having a small business the primary thing I have focused on is ease of water changed. In my fish room I have been designing my tank racks to eventually be plummed into a centeral drain. All my tanks currently have been set up with sump filter systems using matten filters and 20 long tanks(same footprint as 29's) drilled and soon connected to a central drain. Currently the return from the sumps are connected with quick connect that I can hook in my python and drain the tanks to 50% in about 3 minutes. Once I break down a few older tanks I'll be able to plumb in the centeral drain. I highly recommend anyone that can swing it, focus on making water changes easy and fast. A turn of a valve beats the heck out of the bucket or python thing any day of the week. If its easy and fast, your less likly to put off doing water changes. My current limiting factor now is aged water, I need a few more 55g drums.

I'm currently waiting for my first Discus, updates to follow.

Welcome back, Rick. Glad you found the time to keep the fish you enjoy most. Our hobbies certainly aren't the same without them!
