Haha, good one Liz...a little neglect was all it took him to say "I'll show you I still got it lady!" Congrats mate!!
I have a show quality domestic RSG with very low fertility. Every time I slam give up on him he surprises me with a small successful spawn. After a great many attempts that all resulted in fungused eggs, I gave up on him again. He has to be in a 40 cube with his wife because she will beat the crap out of any other Discus if I put them in a tank with others. I had been putting in a sock of Roobios tea every time the pair spawned until this last time. I'd become disgusted and told them that I would no longer cater to the pairs' every whim and the last time they spawned I didn't add the tea. I also neglected their WC and allowed their tank to get so that it was begging me for a wipe down and huge WC, so even though the pair had eggs I did a the tank a good cleaning and a 90% WC.
Guess what? The eggs hatched! There are only 25 or 30 of them but from past experience with him I know that 25 or 30 is all I can expect of him. I am very excited about this spawn because these are siblings of my best fish from the first of his 3 successful spawns since Feb. of 2016.

Or he is doing it out of spite!
These wigglers aren't even free swimming yet and I already have a request for quarter size fry. I would have been afraid to ship fry that small except Al did it and even with the huge FedEx screw-up most all of his nickles arrived alive. The person who want the fry knows that it will take a over a month to reach quarter size. But she is in no rush. She knows the parents and the wait is worth it to her.
I hope I am not jinxing myself by posting about my excitement about these kids. They will be a mix of 9 bar and 14 bar as the female is a Blue Scorpion.

I think fish from the Amazon have a kink for bad conditions. A common trick in the pleco/cory community is to treat them like crap for a couple weeks to a month, then baby them for a few days with daily water changes and good food.
Good luck with the eggs! Your RSG's from Ryan are still the most beautiful discus I've ever seen.
You actually remember the fish I'm referring to. Thanks for that. I've heard that about wild's as well. It mimics what happens to them in the Amazon.

I have seen the RSGs Liz got from Ryan...they are drop deal gorgeous

Correct me if I am wrong Liz
"My Discus Never Cease to Confound Me"... That's the addiction!!!
That's the pair, Dan. You can see why I'm so fond of them.

The kids have attached and all is right with the world

Liz! They are amazing. This is, indeed, becoming an addiction. I have 1.5 acre property and planning a fish room soon.
