TDS VS PPM. What's the difference
Hello I recently found interest in breeding my discus... I purchased a TDS meter.. My tap shows 36ppm... Is this good for breeding? I'm confused as people talk about TDS. What is the TDS conversation. Thank you

TDS simply means the total dissolved solids in solution.
PPM (parts per million) is the measurement of how much TDS are present.
As to whether 36 is good for breeding, that question is not for me to answer as I have no idea

TDS as you probably know stands for total desolved solids, ysually measured in parts per million. TDS meters actually do not physically count the atoms or molecules desolved in the water but rather the conductivity of the water, the more substances are desolved in the water the more it conducts electricity. This is why sometimes you see a reference to MicroSiemens (or more correctly MicroSiemens/cm), 100 ppm = 156 MS. Usually for breeding it is advised not to exceed these values.
36 ppm is a very low value, so should be ok for breeding but some minerals are also necessary for the development and growth after hatching so you may need to add some thereafter

People usually shoot in a range from 60-100 TDS for breeding and hatching discus eggs . Once they hatch , you should gradually go back to higher TDS water for better bone development .
36 Tds is too low and lacking buffer (very low KH ) which makes the PH very unstable .
Good luck in your future breeding projects and please share them with us here .
