    Default Xena and Pip

Xena is my cat. Pip is my new puppy. Twice lately Xena has caught a rat and brought it into the house for me to admire. Now, a dead mousie, even a dismembered one doesn't gross me out, but a rat gives me the heebie jeebies. What's worse is that Pip finds them before I do and thinks that Xena has brought in a toy for her.

You are never more than a few feet away from a rat ... Or so they say. I probably kid myself thinking that at least here in the country they are healthier than their city-dwelling cousins. With horse and chicken foid about it is difficult to remain rat-free, that is what Xena is for, just showing you she is earning her keep!

Xena is a good provider sharing her meals with you Liz

As for the Rats... They go hand in hand with Farm animals as you know But thet really like chickens... Chickens are pretty messy eater and theres Usually plenty for the Rats.

I had a bad experience a few years back when I kept my chickens in our shed.. Nasty rats made a city under it. Since building coops with buried chicken mesh around it its been alot more quiet. I havent seen one in years probably moved next door to the neighbors with the chickens, ducks and goat.

I'm very proud of Xena for sharing her prizes with me. They were larger than I thought she could kill. The size of them is what grosses me out when I pick them up and dispose of them. The fact that Pip is always playing with it before I have a chance to see it doesn't help.

I'm sure I have rats although I've never seen one. I've found possums in the chicken house eating chicken feed and ignoring the eggs in the next boxes. I've had predators take chickens for a meal. Those things are normal for someone who had her house built the at the end of a long dirt road out of sight of her closest neighbor.

I named her Xena because she was just a tiny kitten when I brought her into a house with 10 dogs!!! She had to be strong so I gave her a strong name. I kept her in the office for a couple of weeks. She slept in a drawer. I let her out when she was ready to face the world. She did just fine with those 10 dogs. Now she has a little puppy in training.

Liz, do Xena and Pip interact with each other? This threads is crying for pics of those two but without the rats.

They played chase around a circular garden once. Since then I haven't seen them play. Mostly what happens is Pip tries to chase her, Xena gives her "the look" and Pip changes her mind.
