Default can 2 fish be put together and form a pair?

    I have 5 ,6-1/2 inch fish in a 75. 2 males and 3 females.
Of the fish I would like to pair off is a bss and bt who show no
interest in each other. Actually none of the fish show any
    interest in each other.
My question is if I put these 2 fish in there own 40 would they
    eventually pair up?

Honest Jay, if they do not pair up in the 75 I do not see what a difference a different tank would make. Time to examine your water and diet I think.

    I do a 60% w/c everyday with 2 100% w/c 2 times a week. They are fed
fdbw 2x/day and my sea food, chicken breast mix 1/day.
Temp is 82 , I am a on well water, temps 82, all other measurements normal.
I have tried everything that I know to get some reaction from ant of them and nothing.
    thank you for answering

Just a thought Jay...is the chicken breast you use free range? If not, the growth hormones in the regular stuff might be causing the issue...

Another thought Jay is to understand your water parameters like TDS, PH, KH and GH. Can you measure those?

Interesting thought re: chicken. It's just regular store bought .
    TDS-100,kh around 1+,ph- 6.8 to 7.2 amonia-0, nitrates 0, nitrites lower then 5.

I don't believe that growth hormones are used on chickens. They grow fast because of their breeding.

Are you sure that you have both a male and a female in the group? I can't think of any other reason that you would not see some action.

Yup, 45 days and sometimes even less from egg to supermarket - it probably takes us 2 years to get our Brahmas to grow yo the same weight!

I have read that they have a hard time walking and are unable to breed naturally when they get to breeding age. It's amazing what can be done with selective breeding. Some of it I don't like. Butterfly Discus, Bull Dog Discus, Bulldogs who have trouble breething, Shar Pei's that are one big skin problem, hairless cats, Chows who won't win in the show ring unless they are straight stifled, and chickens that can't breed naturally for example...

Wow! I just went on one of my rants! Sorry.

Totally agree with you, although the problem with broiler's legs not holding the weight is now mostly sorted (again through breeding) as it was not good for business.
Don't get me started on kennel club standards and dog shows encouraging the selection of unhealthy traits, no longer than 2 years ago at Crufts the winner of the German Shepherds was a dog that had a scandalous degree of hind deformity the poor thing could barely walk.

The judge should have been taken outside and shot there and then

Jay you can mix any male and female Discus together in a tank and if they are sexually mature, and healthy and the water parameters are good they will pair up. It may take awhile though.
How old are the fish and has anyone actually laid eggs yet?

Talk about a high jacked thread. Anyway does anybody have any answers to my original question?
As an aside, I found out that in fact the chicken I use is free range[depending on you definition of free range},
    hormone and antibiotic free.
    Thank you
    Jay
