I refuse to use hot tap water. I just put 4 heaters and a circulation pump in my 55 gal barrel. It heats the water in just a few hours. The pump helps a lot.

Its fine to do that. Did it for years.

I use three 30 gallon aquariums as my ageing barrels with hot tap right from the sink, let it age a day or two than a 60 gallon w/c. Been doing it like that for so many years to late to change my evil ways now.
