Default What type of container do you guys keep aging water in?

My 55 gal tank is in my bedroom, right next to my closet. The closet is about 5 feet wide but it doesnt have enough room to fit a brute trash can like many of the forum'ers do. What type of container should i use to age my water? I could just plop a 20-30 gallon tank in my closet but id prefer not to do that, some type of plastic container or something?

I only need about 20 gallons to change at a time. Gonna run air pump w / heater.

Please lmk suggetsions or places where i should go look for possible options like home depot or such

I pulled this link from an older thread and appears they have any size you need.

Hope it helps...you can also check Kijiji in your area or farm supply store.
Really important that it's food grade.

I got some 30 gallon plastic syrup barrels from a local Pepsi distributor for free.

    They look like these...

If you have cash to spare, check out Norwesco verticle storage tanks. They have some larger sizes only 18" in diameter.

    Ralph,

Thanks for the info. They have QUITE the inventory...

The blue 55 gallon which is the size I want, has a non-removable lid. The two 2" bung holes would probably do for aging/outgassing, but probably impractical for thermometers, pumps, etc.

What does anyone/everyone use removable or non-removable lids?

Sooo this may seem like a dumb question but what kind of aeration are you guys running thru there. Im gonna be changing out 20 gallons at a time. Also if i have a heater in there it wont mess with the plastic at all? hmm. gonna pick up a 20 gal brute can.

I want to keep it as economicable as possible with the aeration

I just used an electric jig saw first drilling a hole to start and stayed 1/2" inside outer edge to keep lip edge clean with no uneven surfaces.
Placing a heater in plastic barrels with water of course are fine but as a precaution you can set heater on an old ceramic plate so it doesn't touch bottom.
As for aeration I have a large fishroom air pump so feed off that with an airstone.

    Hope this helps

I use a 44 gallon Brute trash can (clean and absent of trash, of course). lol I keep a powerhead pump, heaters and an air stone in it as well to have agitation while I age for 12 to 24 hours depending on my water change routine.

Maybe you said and I missed it, but does your pH change enough in 24 hours that you need to age your water?
