Default Are Tempered Glass Tanks Still Sold?

A 2 year old 75 gallon tank/stand was offered to me for $125. The owner has no idea whether the glass is tempered or not. I plan to drill it, so after researching *how*, I will be checking it. I'm hoping it's easy to be certain.

Anyone know how likely it is that the glass is tempered?

    Thanks for any thoughts,

    Tom

Tom - There is usually a sticker somewhere that identifies the manufacturer and date of manufacture. If you can find it, suggest you contact the manufacturer. I believe there is a way to identify tempered glass, but I do not recall details. Typically, I believe, larger tanks have a tempered bottom and regular glass on the rest of the tank. Good luck.

Hopefully it's on the bottom of the tank, and they didn't remove it. I've asked them to check for a sticker and any paperwork.

It requires polarized glasses, but I think a polarized camera filter would also work. Some have said you can "see the lines" in polarized glass.[/quote]

That's what my research is indicating, but I will also check as best I can...

    Thanks Steve,

I'm actually trying to find out if 75 gallons are typically made with or without tempered glass. But that site will be helpful for other stuff.

All my 75's had tempered bottoms only. They're made by all-glass

    Thanks PitDogg2,
