    Default My FIRST Discus!

So after months of tank cycling, research, and expectation. I’ve finally acquired my first discus! I’m so excited to embark on this journey. I’ve purchased 3- 3 inch discus with the intention to buy two more next week. (I’m heading out of town tomorrow so I didn’t want to overload my bioload with 5 new fish at once)

Just wanted to share with you all!

    Pictures in next post

Looks like a good starting point but I’d get the other 2-3 asap. Just keep an eye out on your water parameters and wc as needed. What size tank do you have?

I love a mix batch and BD is one of my favorites.

Looking good. Is it a blue diamond? It has some pattern in the finnage. Maybe a blue SS??
    Red turq and red/white right?
    Where did you get them?

Nice babies Dylan . They are too young for a thick Sandy bottom and a decor but if you are set for the looks , try to do your best with siphoning and keeping the bottom free from food and poop leftovers .

Good luck and keep changing water untill they grow to a decent size .

Yes! Picking up two more next week when I'm back in town! I have a 55 gallon.

I purchased them at my local fish store. Normally would've ordered from one of the forum breeders but my wife gave me a gift card for the shop. They used to breed discus and quarantined all these so I was confident in them.

I believe its a blue diamond, red turq, and then they said red melon, but I have a hard time seeing that.

Thank you! Yes I set up this tank before I really had any idea what I was doing. But already had a fairly established community when I realized that a bare bottom was best for youngins. I plan on keeping a close eye on it, and if water parameters are too unstable, I'm going to go bare bottom.

Congrats on starting your journey with your new discus! As others have said, definitely try to get a hold of a few more discus. In a 55 gallon, 5-6 would fit comfortably, though you want six so you have a reason to try to talk your wife into letting you get a 75 gallon tank. ;-)

Just keep up with frequent feedings at that size and doing water changes with good siphoning. The less objects and substrate the easier it'll be for you in the long run. As they grow bigger, you can always put them in a tote with an air stone / sponge filter then set up your decor and place them back. Good luck and again congratulations!

Glad you have got round fish in your tank, all the advice given above is spot on so all that is left for me to do is congratulate you and your wife (for having such exquisite taste in Christmas gifts) and wish you all a happy new year!
My discus are not fat...just big fish-boned
