I'm so terribly sorry Pat for the loss of Jake. I don't have any knowledge about life span of horses but shy of 33 yrs old seems like a long time. That is a great photo of him and sure he has left you all many great memories.

I had to put my old man down. He had heart failure so I made the call and sent him over the rainbow bridge. He would not have survived the night. Jake lived a good life and would have been 33 this coming April. Goodbye old man, you will be missed.

So sorry Pat. He sure lived to a ripe old age. He was lucky to have such a caring loving family as yours for all these years. Sorry you had to say goodbye to your old friend today.
Hugs
Patty
If the discus are happy, I’m happy
sorry to hear about you old friend. ,never easy to say goodbye .
All our love on this sad occasion, he looked like a lovely creature. We had to put to sleep our gray about 8 years ago (melanoma had spread everywhere). Our remaining 2 are 14 and 16 and hope to keep them for as long as you kept your boy, you have definitely done right by him
My discus are not fat...just big fish-boned
I'm sorry for your loss Pat. Was he with your family from it's birth ? 33 years seems like a lot more than just a regular bond between human and pet .
Thank you Paul, I was lucky that Jake remained healthy until the end. We quit riding him a couple years ago and over the last two years he started to become a bit sway-backed and ribby. He is pretty much near the end of his tooth life. He was still sassy and the top horse between him and Bucky until the end. Bucky wanted to be top horse so bad.

Thanks Filip, Jake came to live with me when he was 18. Jake spend his young years as a breeding stallion and had been recently gelded before coming to live with me. It was a rough go with Jake at first as I had two other geldings when Jake came to me. Jake was beating the crap out of the other two horses and he almost did not stay. Thank goodness Jake settled down and was able to stay with me.

Pat, Jake was a very lucky boy to have such a kind, loving owner. You know that you did the right thing despite the pain it caused you. I had 2 of my old dogs PTS last month. It's so hard, and it hurts so much. Knowing that our animals had the best life possible is the only thing that makes the pain bearable. I'll be thinking of you.

Aw Liz, sorry to hear about the pups. I know that hurts. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and I will do the same....hugs.
