Indeed they are. We go through great lengths to give them the care they deserve.

Pat I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you. I had to put my boy Mick down 5 years ago.
He was a Belgian that I got at a year and a half, trained him to wagon and trail. But he got cancer
at 8 years old, a melonoma and had to put him down. Same thing with my Bernese at 3, not melanoma it was liver cancer. I got to tell you
people who don't have animals just don't understand . As I write this I"m tearing up and I am a tough
    old guy.
Was he an Arabian or across?

Really sorry to hear about Mick and your Bernese Jay. Jake is my third horse having laid to rest. I also had Jake's Son Khayel and his daughter Comet. Both which passed prior to Jake, Comet broke her rear leg at three and Khayel to COPD (heaves) at 17. Tom and I are on our third dog since we have been married and Belle will be nine this year. Our pets are family plain and simple and you are correct, people without animals do not understand and I think their lives lack something as a result.

I am packing up Bucky's stuff so he can go home with my daughter today. It feels weird, like I am packing up my child.

Thank you so much Paul. Tomorrow will be my first day without horses in over 20 years. It feels so weird. Bucky's move to my daughter's house was mostly uneventful except for loading Bucky into the trailer. Took two hours and finally with Mike leading Bucky into the trailer and a little gentle pressure with Diana and I in the back he was in. Bucky was not scared, more like testing us. It gave Diana and Mike a chance to see his true nature which was a good thing.

Bucky is settling in well at Diana's place. Here he is being introduced to his stall.

This is my second day without horses and it feels weird. I think Blaze is missing the horses too. Blaze is my barn cat.

I’m so sorry Pat, he was so beautiful. They really do take over a place in your heart. We had to put down our second lab Flynn, a year ago and I still look behind me before I back up in the kitchen. He was always underfoot just waiting for a tasty morsel to drop. He was thirteen and was with our children as they grew up. Putting him down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Pets have a history with us. Lots of memories. Those gifts we get to keep with us always. My heart goes out to you.
