Default 7 discus in 55 gallon?

I’ve been blowing up the general discussion area a bit. But I’ve recently had an auspicious occurrence in which I acquired 4 beautiful new 3 inch discus in addition to the 3 already in my tank. They’re beautiful, however, now I have a 55 falling tank with 7 discus, 14 neon tetras, 3 Sterbai cories, and a baby bristlenose. I have a lot of filtration, but I feel like I’m way overstocked right now.

    Any thoughts?

Yes, but maybe it's a good reason to upgrade to a 75 or 90??

At 3 inches 7 discus and the other fish are fine in a 55, but when the discus grow up they will need more space. Change a lot of water until you get them into something larger.

As others said, they'll fit for now and I'd add that you should definitely look to be upgrading to a 90 gallon. The dimensions on those are great and it'll allow you to get some more corydoras too because they (like discus) prefer to be in groups of 6 or more.

I have my contest growouts in a 40 breeder and there are ten all over three inches now. Once they get to four inches or a bit larger they will be going in a 75. 75 is a great size. A 90 even better

Absolutely. I wasn’t intending on having this many fish, it unintentionally happened. I’ll either upgrade or I may end up selling a couple of discus as they grow. I definitely won’t be keeping 7 adults in a 55. My stand was designed for a 75-90 gallon so that’s definitely an option.
