Default How to maximize water flow through sponge filters without hi flow in tank and surface

Basically I want my my pourace sponges to suck in as much as possible so they can be more mechanical without increasing water flow in the tank and without having a lot of surface agitation. My discus hate movement and noise Thanks !

You could attach them to powerheads instead of an air pump, and position the outflow of the powerhead to a corner or something so the flow of the tank doesn't disturb the fish very much. I've never done this myself, but I've seen it done many times.
